Abstract:
The study focused on strategic planning as an important tool in keeping libraries, in particular, Solusi university library competitive. The study sought to identify key strategic areas of Solusi university library and their significance in keeping the library competitive and relevant. It also discussed the benefits of strategic planning and the challenges faced when trying to implement the strategy. The researcher adopted a qualitative research paradigm and in particular, a case study approach. A sample was drawn from the Solusi population which included library staff, faculty and students. Purposive sampling was used to select the respondents. Interviews were conducted and the data generated was analysed thematically. The results indicated that strategic planning plays a pivotal role in directing and transforming libraries making them relevant and competitive. Recommendations were also made to try and encourage librarians and other information professionals to adopt and use strategic planning as an important tool that will transform the profession taking it to greater heights.
