dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT This study aimed at investigating the influence of parental involvement on the Academic Performance of students at Public secondary school level in Kabwe District of Central Province in Zambia. The population of the study was 7040 students and parents at the public secondary school. The study used five secondary schools which were selected through the use of simple random sampling schools with 300 respondents. 150 respondents were students and were also selected through the use of simple random sampling while the other 150 respondents were parents of students who were randomly selected. Self-constructed questionnaires were used to collect data for both respondent groups. Descriptive survey method was used for the study. Research instruments were submitted to the supervisor for face and content validation and advised accordingly before it was used for collection of data. A pilot study was carried out in the same district to determine the reliability of the instrument through the use of Cronbach Alpha Coefficient. The reliability Coefficient was obtained at 0. 948 for students and 0.673 for parents, therefore, the instruments were taken to be reliable for the study. The T-test was used to find out the differences in responses between parents and students. The collected data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Thereafter, the descriptive statistical analysis was used to determine the level of influence the independent variables had on dependent variables. The findings of the study indicated that parents had very high expectations from their children while they did not provide necessary gadgets to their children to assist them in their studies to improve their academic performance. The researcher recommended further studies within the district as well as other districts at different levels and using different research methods. en_US
